A couple of pics and an update

I don't really have much to say. We are slowly adjusting to having a new baby in the house. I'm starting to feel more normal - and more capable these days. Alice is settling in (for the most part) into a good 3 hour cyclical routing of eat - wake - sleep. She won't sleep on her own unless she is really tightly swaddled. I'm glad it works, but it's really a pain in the neck to keep doing. I can't wait until she outgrows that need!

Sophie is silly as usual. She put on some boots yesterday and decided she wanted to go play outside. It was fun to watch her trying to ride a scooter. It will be nice when we have good weather and green grass for the kids (and me) to go outside and enjoy. We are starting to get some tulip shoots up - so I guess Spring isn't going to be evading me forever. Sophie tried to pull the same put on boots -> go outside trick today. But I wasn't about to let her go outside in her princess nightgown.

Kids are fun. :)

Abby's Check-up

Abby is a big five year old now and we are going to be registering her for kindergarten this next week. So, she was *lucky* enough to get to go for a check-up at the doctor's office this week. They measured her and weighed her and she tops the charts in the 99th percentile for weight and the 100th percentile for height. I tried to use some online charts and it looks like she'd be about average for a 7 year old! She got FIVE shots in her legs and I understand she wailed pretty good in the doctor's office. (Tom took her for the appointment, so I didn't get to experience it first hand.) I don't think she minded it all too much because she was promised the ice cream product of her choice as a treat afterward. She picked a Jamba juice.

Two weeks old

Alice is two whole weeks old now. She had her appointment yesterday and did really well. She gained a pound and grew and inch! (She's now 8 lbs 10 oz and 21 1/2 inches) I attempted to take some pictures of her today, but it's a little tricky to get a good one when she can't really prop herself up well. Somebody needs to teach her to pose for the camera!

Bunk bed

So, the girls got a new bunkbed almost a month ago now. It marked the beginning of Sophie and Abby sharing a bedroom. It also marked Sophie's transition into becoming a big girl. Or maybe just a little girl who could get out of bed. I'm not sure which is true right now.

Here's the new bed. I probably should have straightened it up before taking the picture - but I didn't really want to. Oh well! Why should I start creating the illusion of a clean house now? I need to find some cute matching comforters or something. For now Abby is using her old stuff and Sophie is using my stuff from college. Why waste perfectly good bedding, right?

Sophie has done amazingly well with the bed. I was worried she would try to escape for hours on end, night after night. She took a few hours to sleep the first couple of nights - making lots of noise and keeping Abby awake. I checked on her the first night before I went to bed and she was on the floor, with the top half of her body underneath the bed. Tom thought she fell out and wiggled her way under. I'm not quite sure what to think!

She still tends to take a while to sleep, but she seems to be doing it more quietly these days. Or maybe Abby has adapted and learned to ignore the noise from the bottom bunk. I'm glad it didn't turn into the nightmare I had imagined. Sophie even takes naps in her bed! She tries to worm her way out of it sometimes, but 95% of the time she gets a good nap in.

That's my story about the bunkbed.

Look Alikes?

So, what do you think? Do my babies look alike?

Welcome Baby Alice

Alice was born Monday, February 2nd at 8:53 AM. She was 7 lbs 8 oz and 19 1/2 inches long. She is beautiful and doing really well. She surprised us by coming out with white blonde hair. Our other two were born with brown hair, so we were expecting more of the same.

We just came home yesterday afternoon from the hospital and I'm still feeling pretty sore. I came down with a cold while I was in the hospital and I got a tetanus shot, so I'm congested with a sore throat and my arm hurts - among other things. Oh well!

We're doing pretty well and adjusting to having three kids instead of two. Last night was a bit rocky, but hopefully it's all uphill from here!

Sitting at my desk is starting to hurt, so I'll have to end this for now. :)
